Welcome to Seaweed & Sassafras, my little corner of the world where I share my kitchen adventures and life as I know it. Here's a little bit more about me...
I started this blog, because let's face it...I needed to learn how to cook! I was newly married living off rotisserie chicken and rice-a-roni, we won't mention what it was like in college... :) So I decided to start a food blog to keep me accountable and to find inspiration. And don't get me wrong, I love food - I just didn't have a clue about how to make it. When I was little I used to stand next to my mom with a bowl of water, dumping her spices into it, making "dinner" and as a kid I watched Yan Can Cook faithfully on our tiny tv.
Things started out slow...as they usually do...but Update: I am feeling more and more confident. I'm finding flavors, recipes, and cooking styles I love, and ones I didn't even know I could do! I love to tackle new things, even if they don't always work out - it's about the journey. And I'm enjoying finding my balance in the kitchen.
Here are some other things about me...
Give me a cute top and some skinny jeans and I could rule the world.
I love fashion, design, and just making life prettier. Mix that with my desire to leave the world a little bit better than the way I found it; I strive to spotlight things that are eco-conscious, from small businesses, upcycled, recycled, eco-friendly, sustainable, you name it.
I believe in eating local and seasonal foods, organic is a must, homemade always tastes better, and try to avoid processed foods (although I'm such a sucker for cool ranch doritos).
I believe travel opens your heart and your mind. Being a military spouse (my guy is a Navy Pilot) we've been lucky enough to live overseas, traveling to some really cool places like Australia, Fiji, Singapore, Japan, etc.

I am crazy in love my bulldog Watson.
A good quote (and a cup of tea) can solve anything.
